Magazines Part II

Image Based- Image based covers are the most common cover types out there. These covers usually feature a person or people but they can also feature landscapes, food, nature etc. The feature usually represents who or what the magazine issue is about. Illustration Based- Illustration based covers are the original way they used to to make magazine covers. These covers usually display something unusual, unique or comical Type Based- Type based covers are very rare and not used often in magazines. These covers are shocking, striking, surprising and eye grabbing. They grab peoples attention on a unique topic. Concept Based- Concept based covers are a mix of all three types of covers. The cover is used to convey a strong and striking message with a funny or unusual photo. The photo is often not a person but an object and is usually manipulated. The relationship between the words and photos on magazine covers is very important. The words say what the picture can not, it helps the re...

Favorite Cover

Image
My Favorite- "This cover of  Wad  uses the illusion of a model’s face torn in two to reveal another image of her face, perhaps trapped, perhaps empowered. Three eyes peer out at the potential consumer." I like this portrait cover because of how sharp, white and clean it is while also having so much depth and a story behind it. I see  the as the model's personality and real self is hidden behind this perfect model who is silent and doesn't voice her opinions. The tare with a quarter f the model's face peeking out shows her real person breaking the front she has. The model is breaking the expectation and becoming original. The photo does a good job at playing with the light and tying the white into the photo then using the red lipstick as a statement, bold color.

Magazine Tips

1) Make your magazine covers stand out with pictorial and verbal appeals making the cover stand out and grab people's attention. 2)  Less color does more, don't overcrowd your picture with colors. 3) Be thinking about the surroundings of the magazine so the colors don't mesh and it stands out more. 4) A magazine is a physical product so you should make the most of it and be creative with the ways you can use it. 5) Be careful with the text on the cover making sure it doesn't overpower the picture. Make sure it is understandable.

Self Portrait and Portraits Intro

Image
1.) Looking off camera –  have your subject focus their attention on something unseen and outside the field of view of your camera. This can create a feeling of candidness and also create a little intrigue and interest as the viewer of the shot wonders what they are looking at.   2.) Looking within the frame  – alternatively you could have your subject looking at something (or someone) within the frame. 3.) Play With Backgrounds The person in your portrait is the main point of interest – however sometimes when you place them into different contexts with different backgrounds you can dramatically alter the mood in a shot. Environmental Portraits   I liked this photo because it reminded me of me when I was younger. I had the same bed and sheets as the girl in the picture. I chose this picture because it captures a little girl day dreaming really well. The picture has a happy tone that makes you like it more, I like this picture because it c...

Shutter speed, aperture, ISO

Image
Aperture Aperture F2.8 Aperture F16 1. The part of the body we should closely relate to aperture is the pupil. 2. The smaller the aperture the higher amounts of background blur. The larger the aperture the less amounts of background blur. 3. Aperture can affect the Depths of Field very greatly. If you want a picture where the focus is mainly on the foreground and have a more blurry background you would use a lower aperture. And vise versa when you want to see the foreground and background clearly. Shutter Speed Higher shutter speed Slower shutter speed 1. The sun is out a) Quicker shutter speed b) Longer shutter speed c) Quicker shutter speed d) Quicker shutter speed e) Quicker shutter speed f) Quicker shutter speed 2. The sun is down a) Longer shutter speed b) Longer shutter speed c) Quicker shutter speed d) Longer shutter speed e) Longer shutter speed f) Longer shutter speed 2. Photo Manipulation and and Ethics

Image
A.  A few points I read about in the article is that photo editing software now can help fix and make a photo look better in a matter of seconds compared to the hours it used to. But it's an issue of keeping the image true to it's original self.  We want to make pictures ethical and perfect but we have to careful that we are not twisting the pictures too much and not showing the readers the true images. Hiding the truth and shielding the eyes of readers can come with great consequences. B. Newspapers like the New York Times and TheWashington post have many rules and regulations when it comes to altering and manipulating posts that are very strict. An example of this can be The Charlotte Observer's policy thats states no photo should be altered of it's original color. C. Acceptable things you can do to an image without crossing the line unto an unethical manipulation is editing a photo to make it seem brighter and more clear. You can make a certain thing look better ...

2019 Reflection

Image
I Like this picture because it captures the damage that the Amazon fires have done perfectly. I like how you can see the dead chopped up tree in the center and the foreground around it but you can also see the trees and smoke in the back. In this picture I like how the infrastructure is very clear and you can see all the details but the people in the building are blurry. I loved watching the Met Galla this year and Lady Ga Ga's outfit was defiantly one of my favorites. This picture really perfectly captures the layers of her outfit and the crew surrounding her. Harry Styles's new album Fine Line was released late 2019 and it was, in my opinion, perfect. My favorite song from the album was falling. I really liked this song because of how soft acoustic it is. I could also relate to the lyrics of the song and every time I hear it I want to cry. This song was the best of 2019 because it was a very big deal for Styles's fans since he has not come out with ...
